Why The Recess Factory?

Experience creates confidence. We know event operations, it’s what we do, and we love it.
- Our team has a combined total of managing over 3500 participant events, ranging from multi-day, high liability events with attendance over 250,000 to running events with over 10,000 participants.

We hold great pride in our team’s knowledge and our ability to quickly and conservatively solve problems, in many cases with minimal resources and a tight budget.

Our staff is always professional in appearance and manners.
- We mandate a clean and organized personal appearance for all employees.
- We are not simply ‘operations’ for your event. Our staff knows the value of premium customer service with great attitude and integrity towards your participants. By default, your ‘Operations Team’ has numerous interactions with your participants. Our staff is respectful and always aims to make their experience personal and fun.

DAVID JANOWIEC
President
At a young age, growing up in northern Minnesota, he developed a love for building things through his father Bruce, a cabinet builder, and began using this trait to build his first business at the age of 24. David has held leadership positions in the private, public, and non-profit sectors with companies such as Life Time Fitness, the International Mountain Bike Association, and the University of Colorado Boulder. He serves on the board of directors for Boulder Hockey Club and has served on past boards for Dawg Nation Hockey Foundation and Colorado Youth Hockey Foundation.​ He attended both Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth with a degree in Recreation Management. David, his wife Samantha and 2 kids Avery and Jacek live in Erie, Colorado. His favorite things are hockey, golf, baseball, fly-fishing, design, woodworking, cowboy boots, country music, flip flops and the water. (aka: Ice in the winter)
JENNIFER BURTON
Event Manager
Jenn graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a degree in Event Management in 2016. Jenn began her career with an internship here at The Recess Factory and has since worked as an event contractor for multiple companies and travelled the U.S. helping to produce different special events. She also worked the 2017 season with the Colorado Rockies on their Promotions and Special Events team. If she's not at an event, Jenn is most likely climbing a mountain with her dog or finding a great happy hour deal somewhere in Denver.
MICHAEL HERING
Video Production
Michael will tell you everything you need to know about yourself and your peers in the first 15 minutes you talk with him. He's a very intellectual and amazingly creative person - a perfect fit here on the Recess Factory team. Our production experience is vast, with work created for corporate marketing campaigns, professional athletes, short films, educational pitches, and commercials.
SAM LYONS
VP Operations & Business Development
Sam attended Colorado State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing with a minor in Finance. He grew up in a small town in Colorado. He has held past sales and marketing positions with a few major Beer companies. His favorite things to do out side of work are Golf, wakeboarding, snowboarding and and being around water.
HUNTER SCHOEPFLIN
Director Marketing & Communications
Hunter graduated from Colorado Mesa University with a degree in Mass Communications. Currently, he is completing a Master's Degree through Arizona State University. Hunter grew up in the state of Colorado playing hockey and is passionate about communicating with others. He fines a perfect balance of work and play being at The Recess Factory, where he is able to combine his passions of hockey and communicating as the Director of Marketing and Communication.
